What the guidelines say

AAHA calls what the pet is currently given a “critical aspect” of the history, so the clinic can evaluate whether anything more is needed and minimize drug interactions. They give examples of risky combinations, including some supplements taken alongside antidepressant-type drugs, and warn that products labeled natural can still have purity problems, toxicity or interactions.

What to record for each item

  • Name and strength, exactly as on the label
  • Dose, how often, and who gives it
  • Start date, and stop date if any
  • Why it was prescribed
  • Missed doses or side effects you noticed

Set reminders and share the list

PawLine lets you set medication schedules for each pet, sends push reminders and tracks dosing history. You can email health notes to your vet before an appointment.

A safety note

Do not start, stop or change a dose on your own. Ask your veterinarian, even for over-the-counter products.

Frequently asked questions

Should I tell my vet about supplements?

Yes. AAHA stresses that supplements and “natural” products can interact with medications, so list everything.
